Member Code of Ethics Policy
1. Introduction
The Northmont Area Chamber of Commerce (hereinafter "the Chamber") is committed to fostering a culture of integrity, professionalism, and ethical business conduct throughout Englewood, Clayton, Union, and the surrounding Northmont area. Belonging to the Chamber is a mark of civic commitment and business leadership.
This Code of Ethics outlines the standards expected of all Chamber members, their designated representatives, officers, and employees. Adherence to this Code is essential for maintaining trust, credibility, and a vibrant, supportive business environment across our region.
2. Core Values
All Chamber members operate under and support the following core values:
- Integrity: Conducting business with honesty, fairness, and transparency in all dealings with customers, employees, and fellow members.
- Respect: Treating all individuals, organizations, and community partners with dignity, professional courtesy, and consideration.
- Responsibility: Acting responsibly toward the local community, consumers, and regional stakeholders.
- Professionalism: Striving for excellence in products and services while maintaining high standards of personal and corporate conduct.
- Inclusivity: Promoting diversity, equity, and welcoming business practices across all Chamber activities and within the broader business community.
3. Ethical Guidelines for Members
As a condition of membership, all Northmont Area Chamber of Commerce members agree to:
- Compliance with Laws: Abide by all federal, state, and local laws and regulatory standards applicable to their business operations.
- Fair Competition: Practice fair, honest, and open competition, avoiding fraudulent, deceptive, or anti-competitive practices.
- Respectful Engagement: Conduct themselves professionally during all Chamber events, meetings, and digital forums, refraining from harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior.
- Honest Advertising & Communication: Represent their products, services, pricing, and business credentials truthfully and accurately to consumers and fellow members.
- Conflict of Interest & Confidentiality: Respect proprietary information shared within Chamber committees or network groups and avoid misusing Chamber access for unauthorized or deceptive practices.
- Responsible Brand Usage: Use the Chamber logo, affiliation status, and member perks appropriately and in accordance with organizational guidelines.
4. Responsibilities of Board and Leadership
The Chamber’s Board of Directors and executive leadership hold a responsibility to lead by example and steward these values:
- Model Ethical Leadership: Demonstrate the highest standards of integrity in governance and community engagement.
- Ensure Ethical Governance: Maintain transparency, financial accountability, and fair policy execution within the organization.
- Address Concerns Fairly: Provide clear channels to address ethical concerns or policy violations impartially.
5. Reporting Violations
Any member who becomes aware of a significant violation of this Code that impacts the Chamber’s reputation or operations is encouraged to bring the matter to the attention of the Chief Executive Director and/or the Chair of the Board of Directors. Reports will be handled discreetly, confidentially, and reviewed promptly. Retaliation against anyone raising an ethical concern in good faith will not be tolerated.
6. Enforcement and Membership Status
Membership in the Northmont Area Chamber of Commerce is a privilege. Failure to comply with this Code of Ethics, or engaging in conduct detrimental to the mission and reputation of the Chamber, may result in review by the Board of Directors. The Board reserves the right to issue guidance, suspend benefits, or revoke membership in accordance with the Chamber’s bylaws.
7. Review and Amendments
This Member Code of Ethics Policy will be reviewed periodically by Chamber leadership to ensure its ongoing relevance. Amendments may be made by a vote of the Board of Directors.
